A forgotten wall; watercolour on Indian handmade paper; 290X420 mm, unframed
There is so much life on these dilapidated walls. The moss, foliage, wildflowers, holes in the walls where squirrels and rats hide and many more. I tried to capture that story.
This wall is part of a old palace in a village in the state of West Bengal, India. However, this is a common site in any hot humid place in India. Such neglected walls are a delight for artists as they provide so much opportunity in form of textures , colours and subjects. I also made this painting to experiment with different shades of greens and browns. The kingfisher in the paintings adds drama to the otherwise quiet wall.
